Submission on proposed Media Reforms

NZGDA Submission on Proposed Media Reforms

The New Zealand Game Developers Association has made a formal submission in response to the Government’s proposed media reforms.

We welcomed the opportunity to provide input and ensure that the voices of our innovative, fast-growing industry are heard. As digital-first creators and global exporters, game developers play a vital role in the future of Aotearoa’s creative economy. Any modern media policy must recognise the central role of interactive content and the digital platforms that support it.

Our submission emphasised:

  • The economic contribution and international reach of New Zealand-made games

    1. The unique cultural and storytelling power of interactive media

    2. The need for future-facing, platform-neutral policy that supports digital innovation

    3. The importance of fair funding and visibility for new forms of media, including games

The full submission can be Media Reform Submission

We thank the Ministry for the opportunity to contribute and look forward to ongoing dialogue as the reforms take shape.
