New NZGDA Constitution

Consultation is now open on proposed changes to the NZGDA Constitution. These changes are needed to comply with legislation, and to reflect how the Association operates today.

The Board has undertaken a comprehensive review of the current Constitution and is now seeking members’ feedback ahead of a Special General Meeting to approve the changes.

Why our Constitution needs updating

The existing Constitution is no longer compliant with recent changes to  the Incorporated Societies Act 2022. All incorporated societies are legally required to adopt an updated constitution that meets the new standards.

The way NZGDA operates has also evolved significantly since the current Constitution was written. The Association now employs staff, manages a broad range of programmes and events, and operates with more formal governance and operational structures. The updated Constitution better reflects how NZGDA works today and to support the organisation as it continues to grow and serve its members.

A draft of the proposed new Constitution can be found here. We have opened a formal consultation period and warmly encourage NZGDA members to review the document and share any feedback.

Consultation is open until 5.00pm on Tuesday, 03 March

All feedback on the new Constitution should be sent to info@nzgda.com.

Special General Meeting

A Special General Meeting (SGM) will be held online at 4pm on 17 March, where a vote will be taken on whether to approve the changes to the Constitution. You can expect another email next week giving formal notice of the SGM, which all members are invited to attend.

Thank you for taking the time to engage with this important piece of work.
