You can't go wrong with "On Game Design" by Earnest Adams _________________ "When you've seen how big the world is, how can you make do with it?" - Jarvis Cocker |

Game Architecture and Design (Ernest Adams and Andrew Rollings, NRG)
- Good place to start, gives good overviews of production/technology side as well
On Game Design (Chris Crawford, NRG)
- good, but quite idealistic, also see: The Art of Computer Game Design which is also by Chris Crawford
Creating Emotion in games (NRG)
- More about writing, but excellent book, and very relevant
Rules of Play (Eric Zimmerman and Katie Salen)
- Very academic and bulky, read after the above, very good book
The Design of Everyday Things
- Great human interface book
That should get you started. There is a hoard of articles available at www.gamedev.net , and Game Developers Magazine is always a good read (Noah Falsteins articles on The 500 are especially good) _________________ Timothy Nixon

You won't find jack in Whitcolls, try Dimocks or Borders. |

I would suggest Game Design: Theory & Practice by Richard Rouse. The author discuss in details on all of the vital key game design subjects. This book consider the entire breadth of interactive games, covering computer, console, and arcade titles, and spanning a variety of gaming genres including strategy, adventure, simulation, action, role-playing, sports, and war games. _________________ Blackjack Bet |
