Hi,
I found this site while looking for local game development support, even though I spend most of my time on inetrnational sites, and was wondering if this site is even used by 'anyone' currently in the game development industry in NZ? Is there another site that I don't know about or is this it for NZ? It seems to have no community or interactions whatsoever, in fact the most recent posts are always Spam, most probably by bots...
Its a shame that there doesn't seem to be much of a game dev industry in NZ, let alone support for it, am I missing something, is there secret websites where the 'experts' hangout?
Is NZGDA even still an active organisation?
Thanks in advance.

My impression is that most people in the industry are kept pretty damn busy keeping themselves in the industry! For example, Straylight Studios have just finished moving into their new premises, while still working on several projects.
There is also the NZ Student chapter of the IGDA, but that's also pretty quiet at the moment, not counting the spam bots! _________________ Give a man a movie and you'll entertain him for a couple of hours - teach him to be a geek and you'll entertain him for a lifetime |

This site seems pretty dead to me. Still obviously gets hits, but there doesn't seem to be a community as such. It would be nice to chat to other NZlnders in the industry, I don't really know anybody else here as I work for a studio in florida |

It's dead... kaput... buried....
Nothing happens here, no community interaction at all. If this is any indication of the NZ Game Developers Industry then we'll be lucky to get a DOS version of Tetris released worldwide by 2055.
I live in seclusion, develop in seclusion, design alone, code alone and interact with overseas Game Developers forums that are always thriving, helpful and informative. In comparison this place is as interesting as unwrapping a two week old packet of fish and chips found in a dark alley.
We should hold a funeral for the site and put it out of it's misery.

Hi I just joined this forum as I was doing research on game design and was searching NZ but more specifically Maori game developers (which Ive found there are only 2!!). Ive had this idea for the last 3 years and have hundreds of bits of paper with ideas and doodles of my game, but because Ive been in postgraduate study for the last 4 years I haven't been able to get a real document together, but Im due to finish my PhD in a few months so Im really thinking about get a reall game proposal together.
*deep breath* Aaanyway lol, this is the most recent thread on this forum but still the most active then any forum Ive checked out so far lol. But I just wanted to introduce myself, I have no background in gaming but have always wanted to get in the industry, last year I started to try and teach myself how to use maya (I have Maya Unlimited 6). So far I can make a simple character using nurbs and such, but nothing real amazing.
Im doing this because Ive learnt that having an idea and creating a proper proposal for that idea isn't enough at this stage of gaming in NZ and other skills are required, also I thought if I cant get someone to bring my idea to life then I better do it lol . . .
Well Ive ranted a bit too long I think, if you've managed to get this far thanks for the read, and look forward to any help you can give. |

Whats the go with Maori Culture and IP? I've been keen to do something like this for years, I mean modeling historic Maori buildings etc, carvings would rock, Taiaha (sp) is just lush for animation/mocap, and the whole thing visually would be beautiful, but there's no doubt Treaty of Waitangi considerations to take into account.
If you can seal that deal and get some kind of go-ahead I'm interested...
PS do you have Wiremu on that "List"?

| The site's not dead - and, to m0ng00se, the NZ industry is far from dead. As another post-er said, we're all busy working, trying to keep our heads above water. But the NZGDA are keen to see an active, engaged community so keep an eye out for new and exciting things sure to come soon. |

NZ games developers are too busy making games to talk about it, perhaps |
